MAXWELL Ferguson Evans is definitely an ‘‘occasion baby’’, his mum Colleen says.
Colleen and partner Rick welcomed the first baby born in the Hunter on Christmas Day just as Santa had finished unloading his sleigh, at 3.51am this morning.
It was the end of a 14-hour labour for first-time mum Colleen who was induced mid-afternoon Christmas Eve.
The couple were expecting Maxwell on Boxing Day but Colleen’s water broke Sunday and it looked liked he would arrive Christmas Eve.
However Colleen did not have contractions and a rush of babies needing to be induced meant Maxwell did not make it into the world until Christmas Day.
Fitting for a baby who, his parents reluctantly admit, was conceived at Easter.
‘‘[The delivery] started off pretty slow then it was like, right let’s do this,’’ Colleen said.
‘‘There were a couple of rough patches but it was okay in the end,’’ Rick said.
Colleen and Rick, of Shoal Bay, were headed home by lunch time today but only had one thing on their mind after such an eventful night: sleep.
Their family Christmas celebrations were moved to Boxing Day because of their unexpected Christmas Day delivery.
‘‘I got out of doing the cooking,’’ Colleen said.
Maxwell weighed 2.96 kilograms and was 52 centimetres long.
