IT gets bigger every year.
The Samaritans’ Christmas Lunch in the Park drew more than 800 residents to gather near the Newcastle Foreshore for some fun, food and a visit from Santa yesterday.
Not even grey skies and rain could keep people away, with co-ordinator James Rae saying 2012 was easily bigger than last year’s lunch.
‘‘Despite the weather we have definitely got more people than last year.
‘‘All the children are enjoying themselves in the rain and everybody is enjoying the family atmosphere.’’
As well as a delicious lunch of meats, salads, drinks and dessert, there were jumping castles for the children and plenty of gifts.
An army of volunteers prepared and served the lunches to families and individuals in search of a wholesome meal and some company on Christmas Day.
