MAXWELL Ferguson Evans is definitely an ‘‘occasion baby’’, his mum Colleen says.
Colleen Bloom and partner Rick Evans welcomed the first baby born in the Hunter at 3.51 on Christmas morning.
It was the end of a 14-hour labour for first-time mum Colleen who was induced mid-afternoon on Christmas Eve.
The couple were expecting Maxwell on Boxing Day but Colleen’s waters broke on Sunday and he was then expected on Christmas Eve.
However, Colleen did not have contractions and a rush of babies needing to be induced meant Maxwell did not make the world until Christmas Day.
It was fitting timing for a baby whose parents admitted he was conceived at Easter.
‘‘[The delivery] started off pretty slow then it was like, right let’s do this,’’ Colleen said.
‘‘There were a couple of rough patches but it was OK in the end,’’ Rick said.
The couple, of Shoal Bay, were headed home by lunch time yesterday but had only one thing on their minds after such an eventful night: sleep.
Their family Christmas celebrations were moved to Boxing Day because of their unexpected Christmas delivery.
‘‘I got out of doing the cooking,’’ Colleen said.
Maxwell weighed 2.96kilograms and was 52centimetres long.
