A report is being prepared for the coroner after the apparent drowning death of a 27-year-old man at a Central Coast beach this afternoon.
Police said six people, including the 27-year-old man, were swimming at Budgewoi beach about 5.25pm when two of the group left the water because of a rip.
The remaining four got into difficulty and their friends returned to the water to help them.
They were unable to reach the 27-year-old. Other beachgoers managed to retrieve the man from the water but he was unable to be revived.
Three people from the initial group were taken to Wyong Hospital for precautionary medical checks.
