Motorcyclist dead in accident involving RFS vehicle

A MOTORCYCLIST has died after an accident involving a NSW Rural Fire Service vehicle on Putty Road at Howes Valley this evening.

Emergency services were called to a stretch of road, about 50 kilometres south of Singleton, about 5.15pm.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ambulance paramedics and a Westpac rescue helicopter were called to the scene but have been called off.

A NSW Rural Fire Service spokeswoman confirmed the vehicle involved was a marked four-wheel-drive also known as a command vehicle.

It is not believed that any NSW RFS firefighters were seriously injured.

‘‘It’s a tragic accident, someone has died,’’ the spokeswoman said.

‘‘The matter will be investigated by police.’’

Early reports that suggested the vehicle was a truck were incorrect, the spokeswoman said.

Polair are on route from Sydney and are transporting crash investigation officers.

Putty Road remains closed in both directions.

There are no diversions currently in place.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesman said motorists should expect delays.

More to come.
