I TOO was dismayed to read MP Joel Fitzgibbon’s New Year’s resolution of ‘‘less tolerance of minority groups’’ (‘‘My New Year’s Resolution’’, Herald 1/1). He even goes to the trouble of defending his remarks with a series of groundless statements that the Greens say ‘‘no’’ to everything (‘‘Greens hit back at lack of ‘tolerance’’’, Herald 2/1).
The Greens have always advocated for a just transition away from coal production, a position held by many in the Hunter Region regardless of political affiliation.
I believe Mr Fitzgibbon’s other statements reflect not only his ignorance of Greens policies, but his unwillingness to consider independent analysis of Australia’s economic management and future.
What kind of political representation can constituents expect when their standing MP refuses to ‘‘tolerate’’ their representations?
