THREE men are facing multiple charges over allegations that a woman was stabbed in the mouth with a screwdriver and robbed after arriving at a Waratah house to collect some property.
Police say the woman, 24, walked into a Cecil Avenue home about 5.30pm yesterday before being detained by one man, who allegedly struck her lip and mouth with a screwdriver and stole cash from her.
The two other men allegedly ran out to a car parked in nearby Christo Road and assaulted the female driver, 54, who was waiting for the first victim to return from the home.
The younger woman was allowed to leave and reported the incident to police.
Two of the three men made a brief appearance in Newcastle Local Court this morning, but did not apply for bail.
David Gavin Machin, 45, of Cecil Avenue, Waratah, is charged with assault in company, and 43-year-old Siofai Tai Siulai, of Belford Street, Broadmeadow, is charged with robbery, deprivation of liberty, reckless wounding, and resist arrest.
They did not enter pleas and their matters were adjourned to February 20.
The third man, Frances Torralba, 34, of New Lambton Heights, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company, and will appear in Newcastle Local Court on February 12 on that and two charges of drive while disqualified.
Police say Torralba had been banned from driving until 2020 when he was caught behind the wheel while driving along Cecil Avenue on Monday, and two days earlier in Hamilton South.
