LETTER: Sticking up for staff

IN the last week there has been a lot of conversation about the City of Newcastle’s budget, services, rates of pay and cost reductions. 

Many people are frustrated about council’s current financial position and are taking these frustrations out on council staff. 

This is not fair.

 Our staff get up in the morning, get organised and go to work just like you and they are paid in accordance with the relevant award. 

I encourage the community to get involved in council decision-making and budget discussions,  and the most appropriate way to do this is during the public exhibition period for the yearly operational plan during May. 

In the meantime, please treat our staff the way you would like to be treated.
