A PORT Stephens man has been granted strict conditional bail after being charged with indecently assaulting a girl, 12, and taking photographs of her.
The man, 45, was arrested by child abuse squad officers last night after they received a complaint earlier in the day.
It will be alleged the girl was indecently assaulted after visiting the man’s home and that he took photographs of the child.
Police said the child was known to the man but they were not related.
Detectives executed a search warrant on the man’s home late last night and allegedly seized a number of items, including computer equipment and clothing.
He was later charged with two counts of aggravated indecent assault, using a child aged under 14 to produce child abuse material, grooming a child for unlawful sexual activity and producing child abuse material.
Magistrate John Chicken granted strict conditional bail, including the depositing of surety from the accused and another responsible person, that he surrender his passport and not be in the company of children under the age of 16.
He will appear in Newcastle Local Court on March 27.
