A MAN has been charged following a police pursuit through Cessnock, Bellbird, Millfield and Wollombi on Friday night.
About 11.30pm police were on patrol in Cessnock when they saw a man driving a white Holden Astra along Wollombi Road.
Officers recognised the man as being wanted for questioning over a break, enter and steal and other property theft matters. They attempted to pull the Holden over.
The driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit ensued through Bellbird, Millfield and Wollombi.
Police will allege that during the pursuit the Holden was able to avoid police road spikes before stopping on Paynes Crossing Road, Paynes Crossing.
A man allegedly ran from the vehicle and was chased into a paddock where he was arrested while attempting to climb over a wire fence.
The pursuit and subsequent arrest involved officers from both the Central Hunter and Hunter Valley commands.
The 33-year-old man was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop (Skye’s Law), aggravated break, enter and steal, larceny, goods in custody and drive while unlicensed.
He was refused bail at Maitland Bail Court on Saturday and will reappear on Wednesday, January 30.
