AUSSIE musician Wally De Backer aka Gotye has won three awards at the 55th Grammy Awards - Best Alternative Album, and with Kimbra, Best Pop Duo, and Record of the Year for "Somebody That I Used to Know".
Gotye wore a conservative black suit on the red carpet while Kimbra opted for a show-stopping sheer dress with plenty of embellishment.
While most Australians will be sitting down to lunch on Monday, Gotye’s marathon journey from unknown Melbourne musician to global somebody will hit a new peak inside the 20,000 seat Staples Center.
And in London, Australian Hugh Jackman was one of the hits of the red carpet at the British Academy Film Awards on Sunday despite missing out of the best actor gong.
In wet and cold conditions, Jackman was all smiles as he talked to the world’s press at the BAFTAs and posed for fans who screamed his name to get his attention.
The best actor award went to Daniel-Day Lewis for his portrayal of legendary US president Abraham Lincoln.
Jackman wasn’t confident heading into the Royal Opera House in London and with good reason - the bookies had installed Day-Lewis as an unbackable favourite.
Iran hostage crisis drama Argo won the best film prize in a further boost for US actor-director Ben Affleck’s movie at the Oscars later this month.
Affleck also won the best director award while Anne Hathaway won best supporting actress for her performance in British musical Les Miserables.
Emmanuelle Riva was named best actress award for her role as a dying woman in Amour.
The BAFTAs have picked the same best film as the Oscars for the past four years in a row, and for five of the past 10 years in total.
