VIDEO: Paradisis's biggest wave award

TASMANIAN surfer Marti Paradisis has finally landed the big one – Australia’s biggest wave award, that is.

Paradisis pocketed $20,000 for his efforts in catching an enormous wall of water off Pedra Branca Rock, south of his home state.

It was judged the largest wave ridden in Australasia last year, collecting the main prize as part of Surfing Life’s Oakley Big Wave Awards.

Paradisis has won every subsiduary prize during the awards’ 10-year history, but this was the first time he had received the Biggest Wave award..

‘‘I wouldn’t get to ride waves like this without a lot of help so this isn’t just for me,” said Paradisis, who narrowly defeated close friend Danny Griffith, who also scored a massive ride on the same day at the same place.

The other finalists were Paul “Antman” Paterson, Tyler Hollmer-Cross, and Jeff “Camel” Goulden, who took out the  $5000 paddle-in award.

South Africa’s Grant “Twiggy” Baker picked up the $5000 prize for the ‘‘biggest slab’’, caught off the remote Western Australian reef break known simply as The Right.
