TOPICS: Team HQ vision earns top marks

YOUR typical Knights fan has no shortage of advice for the coach.

Cohen Powell, 18, is a Knights fan who likes buildings. And so he has taken a different approach: designing a new headquarters for the team.

This caught our interest because this month the Hunter Sports Group moved its operations from Tudor Street, Newcastle West, to the old administration building outside the stadium at Turton Road.

Cohen, who lives at Mayfield, redesigned the admin building for his HSC industrial technology project.

As you can see from his scale model, he has spruced it up. (The leafy bits aren’t part of the design – they’re from Cohen’s front yard.)

‘‘Seeing the building as it is now, it doesn’t really fit in with the stadium,’’ said Cohen, who thinks the stadium itself is very impressive.

The concept HQ includes a hall of fame, a cafe, solar panels, rainwater tanks and disabled access.

We like it. So did the markers – the project got a band six, the highest grade.

Cohen’s dream is to design stadiums. Topics hopes that it comes true, and that he also redesigns the food and beverage prices.
