CONGRATULATIONS to the Newcastle Herald for initiating the inaugural Writer’s Festival to be held in April.
We shall need the train for transporting all the attendees.
Popular guest writer and big drawcard anywhere, Miriam Margoyles, has recently suggested that the world of business should turn towards the arts when distributing its largesse.
I have a suggestion in relation to arts funding.
Instead of relying on the charity of philanthropists, businesses, and governments for cultural pursuits such as art galleries (a sore point in Newcastle), libraries, concert halls, heritage buildings, etc, why not have a national lottery like that of the UK? It came in handy for the London Olympic Games.
That way those people not only interested in sport and gambling can have it both ways.
