THRILL rides and fairy floss dotted Maitland Showground on Friday night as the city’s Super Show gained momentum.
In its first full day the event’s rides kicked into top gear as pigeons, rabbits, poultry and reptiles went on show.
Among the drawcards beginning yesterday was state championship showjumping, which continues on Saturday and Sunday.
Mount White showjumper Vicki Roycroft, who claimed one of the classes on Friday, said she planned to spend most of the weekend in the arena.
‘‘It’s a very good jumping show,’’ she said.
‘‘We’ve got eight horses here between three riders.
‘‘They’ve top-dressed the arena and it looks fantastic.’’
Ms Roycroft said she was yet to further explore the show but was expecting crowds to swell on Saturday as the weekend brought in families.
‘‘[Friday] is a quiet day but it usually gets bigger tomorrow,’’ she said.
Main arena highlights at the show today include whip-cracking workshops, donkey classes, stud beef judging and a 9pm fireworks display.
