THOUSANDS have proven the Hunter’s love of agriculture remains strong as bumper crowds attended Maitland Show across the weekend.
Committee president Trevor Hardes estimated somewhere between 40,000 and 50,000 people streamed through the gates to explore the district’s 152nd show.
‘‘It’s been a fantastic show this year,’’ Mr Hardes said.
‘‘We’ve been blessed with the weather and all competitors are up this year.’’
Goat judging, horse classes, sheep and rides were among the attractions during yesterday’s third and final day of festivities.
Mr Hardes said the strong turnouts from onlookers and exhibitors vindicated volunteers working behind the scenes to showcase the region’s rural achievements. ‘‘We’re not doing it to make money,’’ he said.
‘‘We’ll be straight back planning for next year.’’
