POLICE have launched an investigation after a single shot was fired into a Cessnock unit.
The residents of an Alpine Avenue unit told police they heard a loud bang about 8.30pm on Saturday night.
The occupants, a man, 23, and two teenagers, thought nothing more of the noise at the time.
But a short time later, one of the occupants noticed a hole in the window and curtain of the kitchen.
Police said a small projectile was recovered from the premises. Detectives attended a short time later and began a search of the area.
No one was hurt and police said their investigation was ongoing.

A SHOT was fired at a home in Cessnock last night.
Police said three people were in a unit in Alpine Avenue when they heard a loud bang about 8.30pm.
The 23-year-old man and two teenagers were not hurt but soon after found a hole in the window and the curtain of the kitchen.
They then found a small projectile.
Police established a crime scene and searched the area.
