WORLD champion Joel Parkinson is hungry for more today at Surfest after a masterful display of tube-riding during an impromptu surf inside Newcastle Harbour yesterday.
Parkinson rushed to the break after competition was called off at a storm-hit Merewether at 3pm.
‘‘Unbelievable session out at Newcastle Harbour,’’ he said later.
‘‘Totally awesome wave – it’s a world-class wave and deserves a world-class event.’’
Surfest organisers have got the go-ahead from port authorities to use the harbour today if required. Spectators are not allowed on the breakwall beyond Nobbys headland for safety reasons, but can watch it from the Stockton side or right here.
