Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was killed in a hit-and-run collision at Lovedale overnight, the second death on the road in a week.
A 36-year-old man’s body was found lying on Lovedale Road, Lovedale, just before 10pm yesterday.
It is believed the man, who was dressed in dark-coloured clothing, had been walking east along Lovedale Road, about 1 kilometre west of Majors Lane, when he was struck by an unknown vehicle.
Police said the the driver of the vehicle did not stop and assist.
Police from Central Hunter local area command and the Newcastle Crash Investigation Unit conducted inquiries at the scene.
Lovedale Road was closed to traffic in both directions for four-and-a-half hours.
Police are now seeking public assistance as they try to locate the vehicle involved and identify who was behind the wheel. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that might assist investigating officers is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
It is the second death on Lovedale road within a week and follows the death of Greta woman Kim Stoker last Saturday night.
The mother of four who was killed in a head-on crash which left six people injured, including five children.
