MORE than 12,000 people flooded Beaumont Street on Sunday to eat, shop, drink and dance at the annual Hamilton Festival.
The event, which aims to showcase the suburb’s many restaurants and businesses, went ahead despite threatening to be derailed by torrential rain and flash flooding on Saturday night.
Beaumont Street was closed to traffic and thousands wandered among food stalls, street performers and musicians.
Hamilton Festival co-ordinator Ian Mackey said the event was blessed with perfect weather after Saturday night’s downpour.
‘‘There were a few people that were a bit worried about the weather, but incredibly the heavens cleared and we got a great day,’’ he said.
