John Renshaw drive has been reopened to traffic in both directions after six people were injured in a three-car-accident this morning.
A 55-year-old woman was trapped in her vehicle before being freed by the Cessnock volunteer rescue squad. She was reported to have had multiple leg and arm fractures and was flown by Hunter Westpac Rescue Helicopter to the John Hunter Hospital.
A mother, her two children and two adults were taken to hospital by road.
At least eight ambulances and two helicopters were called to the accident scene which had completely closed the busy arterial route in both directions near Buchanan.
