Cop guilty of Carrington assault

A NEWCASTLE police officer who assaulted a teenager during the youth’s arrest on the Cowper Street bridge at Carrington in July 2011, has been given a 200-hour community service order.

Senior Constable Scott Michael Dominish, 39, was found guilty of  one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Newcastle Local Court was told in January that the boy’s jaw was fractured when the officer hit him in the head with his knee after the 17-year-old had been restrained on the ground by another officer.

The teenager needed surgery to insert two metal plates and eight screws into his jaw.

The incident was witnessed by a number of people, one of whom was a nurse.
