Minor earthquake hits Tea Gardens

AN earthquake hit Tea Gardens tonight  but most local residents appeared unmoved by the event.

The magnitude-3.0 quake struck at 6.48pm and ‘‘could have been felt by people up to 23 kilometres away’’, the government agency Geoscience Australia reported.

Several people from the area posted on Facebook to say they did not feel the earthquake.

One person tweeted that ‘‘Upper Hunter residents feel houses shaking’’.

Another person tweeted ‘‘Wow! Something just went bang near here. #muswellbrook’’.
