Newcastle film director Stuart McBratney is looking for extras for a feature movie he will start filming in Newcastle in October.
The film, Pop-Up, features three stories that eventually become through the actions of the main characters. He’s already booked actors for the leading roles, but needs plenty of extras.
He’s also looking for finance: today he launches crowdfunding campaign on www.pozible.com/popupmovie to raise $10,000 in 30 days towards the film.
If you offer $40 through pozible.com towards the movie, you will get ticket to the exclusive Newcastle premiere, a copy of the soundtrack, a copy of the screenplay, an e-book and a surprise gift.
McBratney’s plan is three weeks of filming in Newcastle during October and three more weeks in December, with the final two-hour feature due to hit the big screen by the end of 2014.
His filming locations were either Brisbane, his hometown, or Newcastle, where he has lived in recent years.
‘‘I decided Newcastle was really cinematics. The feeling of being next to the water adds to its character. It’s almost like a character in the film. The three lead characters all end up at the ocean at some point.’’
The stars are the film are accomplished Romanian actress Laura Visiliu and Australians Eugene Gilfedder and Greg Powell.
The requirements for extras: ‘‘patience, interest and time,’’ McBratney said.
‘‘We need as many extras as we can get.’’
This year McBratney finished production of a seven-part documentary TV series, Back to the Soviet Bloc, for which he did all the editing work in Newcastle. Distribution rights were TVF International of London.
