BETTING agencies have installed the Knights as rank outsiders among the eight finalists fighting for the Provan-Summons premiership trophy.
The Knights are rated a $41 chance of winning four straight elimination finals, starting with the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium on Sunday and culminating with the October 6 grand final, according to TAB.com.au. They are listed at even longer odds ($51) with sportsbet.com.au.
"Canterbury are getting close to their top side on the park again, and Newcastle's away record this year hasn't been sensational," TAB.com.au media manager Glenn Munsie said.
"The Bulldogs have had a tougher run in the past couple of weeks which has steeled them for the finals as well, and Newcastle's run against Brisbane and Parramatta has been a bit softer."
In head-to-head betting, both agencies have posted the Bulldogs ($1.55) as favourites against the Knights ($2.50).
Shaun Anderson, public relations manager for sportsbet.com.au, said the Knights would miss the experience of Kurt Gidley, Craig Gower and Kade Snowden.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public from 10am today after members had a limited pre-sale opportunity yesterday. They are available online on the Ticketek website, in person at a Ticketek outlet or by phoning 132849.
