The Herald's footy tipping comp winner

DIEHARD Knights fan Graeme Wirrell, of Cooks Hill, is the Newcastle Herald's TopTippa tournament winner of 2013.

The prize includes accommodation for two at Sydney's Sheraton on the Park and two tickets to a catered function at the Sky Venue of Sydney Tower where Mr Wirrell will have the chance to win $1 million.

Mr Wirrell said he had been following NRL "forever" and had been playing in tipping comps for a while.

"[TopTippa] is definitely a great comp, it's different to all the other competitions . . . I've never won anything in other competitions," Mr Wirrell said.

Like any true Novocastrian, Mr Wirrell has been a Knights supporter "since they started in 1988, I've been sitting on the hill with the family in the heat and the rain and the mud," he said.

Mr Wirrell will have the chance to compete against the region's best tipsters in the TopBetta tournament on the day of the grand final and hopefully secure a win.

For all those wannabe tipsters out there, we asked Mr Wirrell who he thought would win the NRL grand final.

"If the Knights aren't there, I'd like to see the Souths win," he said.
