A BABY continues to recover from horrific fractures and bruising which police say is consistent with him being shaken and bitten by an adult.
Strike Force Glendevie has been set up to investigate the suspect assault of the boy, who was just nine weeks old when he was admitted to John Hunter Children’s Hospital on September 7.
‘‘While the exact cause of the injuries are unknown at this time, medical experts have told police that the fractures are consistent with the baby being shaken, and the bruising is consistent with the child being bitten by an adult,’’ police said in a statement.
Newcastle-based detectives from the child abuse squad have formed the strike force and are appealing for information about the suspected assault.
Now aged 16 weeks, the child is reportedly recovering well and has left hospital.
He is in the care of Department of Family and Community Services.
