ON Wednesday night, due to a wind shift, homes in our Whitebridge street came under threat from approaching bushfire.
Rural volunteer firefighters arrived with their vehicles, took up positions and reassured worried residents.
When the fire reached us around midnight, these guys smashed it.
Afterwards I spoke to them and discovered they were from the Central Coast.
They’d been fighting the Dudley/Redhead fire for many hours and had rushed over when the fire front shifted.
At 2am they were still mopping up.
Then they had to drive home to Copacabana and resume their normal lives after ensuring we could resume ours.
A wonderful bunch of young guys and no doubt typical of all the volunteer firefighter fraternity.
Thank you to Captain Clint Pressley and his crew members on behalf of Barraba Street.
Forget the sports heroes. They are nothing compared to these guys. Heart-felt thanks.
