SHOPPERS beware: do not pop in to the city's mega retail centres on December 26 for the Boxing Day sales because most stores aren't trading.
That's the message from executives at Charlestown Square and Westfield Kotara after hundreds of shoppers turned up to the two centres on December 26 last year for Boxing Day sales only to discover that most outlets were shut.
Although Boxing Day sales are a tradition in Sydney and other capitals, the Charlestown and Kotara centres close the majority of stores in accordance with the state government's restricted trading legislation on some public holidays.
Charlestown Square said while its retail stores would be closed on December 26, there would be activity in the centre's entertainment precinct, with Timezone, Strike Bowling and Reading Cinemas trading alongside food outlets Max Brenner, Grill'd, Nando's, New Shanghai and Sushi Bay.
Both centres in Charlestown and Kotara will reopen on Friday, December 27.
