TWO shortened guns have allegedly been seized in a raid by police investigating the theft of a safe from an East Maitland business.
Central Hunter police have released a photograph of a shortened rifle they say was discovered at a Rutherford home during a search warrant yesterday afternoon.
Detectives had been investigating the theft of the safe, cash, computers, keys and a camera from a tyre retailer earlier in the day.
They raided the Gillies Street home about 4.30pm and took two men into custody before allegedly seizing two shortened firearms, ammunition, clothing, computer equipment, cannabis and other items alleged to have been taken at the earlier burglary.
A Rutherford, 33, was charged with property, drug and firearms offences.
A 17-year-old youth was charged with five outstanding arrest warrants.
Both males were refused bail to appear at the Maitland Local and Maitland Children’s Court today.
Police later raided a house on Alliance Street, East Maitland about 11.30pm and allegedly seized a safe, suspected of being stolen from the tyre retailer business.
Investigations into the burglary continue.
