At the weekend I was visiting the Newcastle area and was lucky enough to be invited to the Star Struck 2012 extravaganza. Wow, I’ve not seen an example of passion and spirit of this magnitude since the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
The kids and young adults performed with such enthusiasm and gusto that I found myself welling up after countless ‘‘goosebump’’ moments. An event like this must take months to organise, so I thank the obvious tireless efforts of the students, teachers, musicians and all backstage staff and volunteers. Newcastle, you should be proud of the talent and achievements of your younger generations. If they are an example of your future, then it’s surely safe and in good hands.
