Full scale search for fishermen called off

POLICE have called off the full scale search for two fishermen lost at Catherine Hill Bay.

Tuggerah Lakes police discontinued the search for Hunter fishing mates Trey Adamson and Ben Winn today at 2.30pm.

Duty officer inspector Keith Ross said tomorrow water police would have a look around and council rangers on quad bikes would inspect the beaches over the next few days.

‘‘The full scale search has come to an end,’’ he said.

Police continued the search today using PolAir, water police, jetskis, trails, search and rescue vessels and council rangers on quad bikes.

There was the hope the pair may have found safely in a cave or nearby bushland.

Mr Adamson, 18, of Windale, and Mr Winn, 20, of Gateshead went missing on Sunday after they were lost after a horror weekend fishing tragedy at Flat Rock in southern Lake Macquarie.

The third member of their party, Mr Adamson’s Edgeworth girlfriend Niranda Blair, 18, was found dead on nearby Ghosties Beach on Sunday morning.
