As athletes around the world get set for the London Olympics another group of students is charging up for an Olympiad of a different kind.
Hunter Christian School's Nicholas Laver has been selected to be one of four members of the Australian team at the International Olympiad in Informatics.
It is part of the United Nations International Science Olympiads in September in Italy.
Informatics is computers, programming and information technology.
The Olympiads are annual worldwide competitions for outstanding high school students from more than 100 countries.
The two-day informatics contest includes individuals and teams computer programming and solving algorithmic problems, and the 16-year-old said he hoped to use his skills to solve interesting problems in the real world.
