THE Newcastle Jets started a new era with a 3-1 win over Broadmeadow Magic in a trial game at Wanderers Oval last night.
New signing Adam Taggart scored a double before coming off with a groin strain and James Virgili netted the third as the Jets fought back from 1-0 down.
It was the first outing for coach Gary van Egmond's youthful A-League outfit.
The starting side featured new faces Mark Birighitti, Scott Neville, Josh Mitchell, James Brown and Taggart and Korean trialist Lee Soung-Yong.
Van Egmond missed the finals last year with a squad he inherited from Branko Culina, who was sacked on the eve of the competition by owner Nathan Tinkler.
