Motorcyclist dead after Aberdare accident

A teenager critically injured in a motorcycle accident yesterday has died.

Police said the 18-year-old was riding an unregistered motorcycle east along Congewai Street in Aberdare with a 17-year-old as a pillion passenger.

A woman, 58, was driving a Toyota RAV4 west along Congewai Street. She attempted to make a right-hand turn.

The motorcycle has collided with the car, causing the rider and pillion to be ejected.

The rider sustained serious leg and head injuries and was flown to John Hunter Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He later died in hospital.

The pillion passenger sustained minor injuries and was conveyed by ambulance to the John Hunter Hospital.

The female driver did not suffer any injuries but was conveyed to Maitland Hospital for a mandatory blood and urine test.

The Newcastle Crash Investigation Unit are investigating.
