MORE than 700 screaming teenage girls swooned and sobbed over Dancing with the Stars winner Johnny Ruffo at Westfield Kotara yesterday.
Ruffo, who rose to fame as a finalist on The X Factor, performed his debut single On Top at centre court from about 1pm.
Teenagers in the front row had lined up since 7am to catch a glimpse of their favourite pop star, with many chanting Ruffo’s name and asking him to take his shirt off.
The 24-year-old has become known for his brazen lyrics.
‘‘I like to write cheeky songs,’’ Ruffo told the Westfield crowd yesterday.
His single On Top has the lyrics ‘‘I’ll be on top of the world when I’m on top of you girl’’.
Following his performance, which also featured a keyboard player and two female dancers, the singer signed autographs and took part in a Q&A session with the crowd.
To the delight of his female fans Ruffo said he was attracted to a girl with a beautiful smile. The single On Top was number 26 on the ARIA charts this week.
‘‘My aim is to make it into the top 10,’’ Ruffo said before taking the stage at Westfield for his performance.
‘‘That would be awesome.’’
