Bull riders buck for position in Brendon Clark Invitational

HUNTER bull riders impressed in front of a home crowd last night during the Professional Bull Riders Brendon Clark Invitational.

In an exciting competition at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre, Lachlan Richardson, of Gresford, secured his first Australian Cup Series win to give the crowd a reason to cheer.

Fresh from a stint in America, Richardson finished with a final score of 266.5, a full 10 points ahead of his nearest rival.

The 19-year-old’s win kept him within reach of number one-ranked rider Dave Kennedy, setting up an exciting showdown for the national final in Sydney on July 21.

The Brisbane Invitational this Saturday will be the final test for youngster before the blockbuster event in the Australian Cup Series.

The event also marked a return to the ring for Rothbury local Jason O’Hearn, who had not competed since fracturing his skull at the World Finals in Las Vegas last October.

He joined Richardson and fellow Hunter locals Ben Jones and Brendon Clark to compete in front of the home crowd.
