A BOY has suffered leg and arm injuries after being attacked by two rottweilers as he walked down a Toronto street yesterday.
The boy, aged 11, was with two girls when they were approached and then attacked on Cockatiel Street about 5pm.
A police spokeswoman said the two girls were able to escape, but the boy was pinned to the ground and both dogs had hold of him.
‘‘Two witnesses heard the children screaming and saw the dogs on top of the boy – they ran down the street and both men threw themselves onto a dog each, attempting to pry their jaws open to free the boy,’’ Constable Tarryn Edwards said.
"They managed to get the dogs off the boy but the men continued to wrestle with the dogs, trying to restrain them.’’
One dog was restrained but the other escaped.
The boy suffered injuries to his leg and arm and was conveyed to John Hunter Hospital by ambulance for surgery. He is in a stable condition.
The two men suffered puncture wounds to their forearms and hands and attended Toronto Polyclinic for medical treatment.
A Lake Macquarie council spokeswoman said rangers had contacted the dogs’ owner and both rottweilers had been euthanased.
