Girl dies at scene of mid-north coast crash

A GIRL, 9, is dead following a horrific car accident on the mid-north coast this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Coomba Road, Coomba Park, near the intersection with Burraner Road, about 2.30pm after a vehicle left the road and collided with a tree.

A nine-year-old girl died at the scene.

The elderly female driver had to be freed from the vehicle by emergency services.

She was flown by rescue helicopter to the John Hunter Hospital.

Another passenger, a 12-year-old girl, suffered suspected internal injuries and fractures in the crash.

She was transported by the Westpac rescue helicopter to the John Hunter Hospital.

Manning Great Lakes police and officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit are examining the scene.

The road is closed in both directions and motorists are urged to delay their journeys in or out of Coomba Park.
