Family tragedy after crash south of Forster

A GRANDMOTHER and one of her grandaughters has died, and a second granddaughter continues to fight for her life following an horrific accident south of Forster yesterday.

Emergency services were called to Coomba Road, Coomba Park, near the intersection with Burraner Road, about 2.30pm after a vehicle left the road and collided with a tree.

A 10-year-old girl died at the scene.

The elderly female driver had to be freed from the vehicle by emergency services.

She was flown by rescue helicopter to the John Hunter Hospital but later died.

Another passenger, a 12-year-old girl, suffered suspected internal injuries and fractures in the crash.

She was transported by the Westpac rescue helicopter to the John Hunter Hospital and remains in a critical condition.

Police have confirmed that the trio were on the mid-north coast for the school holidays.

The woman was from Cammeray, in Sydney’s north, while the girls lived at Baulkham Hills.

Manning Great Lakes police and officers attached to the Crash Investigation Unit are examining the scene.
