ALISON Threadwell has one last chance tomorrow to realise her dream of winning the Newcastle apprentices premiership.
Threadwell ends her apprenticeship on July 24.
Tomorrow’s eight-race card at Broadmeadow is her last as an apprentice because the final meeting of the season at Newcastle is on July 28.
Threadwell is on 6, half a win behind leader Jenny Duggan and a half in front of defending titleholder Alex Stokes, who is equal with Sam Clipperton.
Duggan, who has stormed into the lead, has another strong book tomorrow, but Threadwell will rely on three rides to get her in front and hope she can hang on.
She will ride Magic June (race three), Gargle (six) and California Storm (last).
‘‘I would love to win the title, but it is going to be hard as Saturday will be my last day as an apprentice at Broadmeadow,’’ she said.
Trainer Darren Smith has elected to back up California Storm after she finished a well-beaten second last week with Threadwell aboard at Broadmeadow.
‘‘Hopefully we might be able to give Alison her chance at the title,’’ Smith said.
‘‘California Storm was beaten fair and square last week, but she was first-up and I can say for sure she will be improved. The run has done her no harm.’’
