Wanderers kick off with strong Jets flavour

WESTERN Sydney Wanderers opened training to the cameras yesterday in Blacktown, illustrating how much the A-League’s newest franchise is relying on former Newcastle players.

Coach Tony Popovic has signed nine players, more than half of whom once called Hunter Stadium home.

Crowd favourite Tarek Elrich, stopper Nikolai Topor-Stanley and striker Labinot Haliti signed directly from the Jets, while goalkeeper Ante Covic (Melbourne Victory) and marksman Mark Bridge (Sydney FC) moved elsewhere before joining Wanderers.
