Man arrested in QLD after manhunt at Newcastle Airport

A MAN has been arrested in Queensland following a police manhunt at Newcastle Airport today.

Queensland police arrested a 44-year-old man at Brisbane Airport this afternoon after he flew out of Williamtown.

The man is now assisting police with their inquiries into the death of a woman in her 30s at a unit in North Curl Curl on Sydney’s northern beaches last night.

Port Stephens police had earlier been searching cars departing Newcastle Airport, with police dogs and a helicopter were also involved in the operation.

Investigators had also seized a silver sedan parked in a hire car bay near the terminal.

Police attended the North Curl Curl unit about 9.30 last night following reports of a loud argument before forcing their way into the unit.

The woman was discovered inside suffering critical injuries and died at the scene.

She is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene has been established and is still being explored by forensic investigators.
