Man arrested for alleged assault in toilets

A retired police superintendent arrested a man in the women's toilets at a Gosford hotel during an alleged assault.

About 5pm on Saturday a 28-year-old man allegedly assaulted his former girlfriend while at a house in John Whiteway Drive, Gosford.

The man and woman then drove to Donnison Street, Gosford where the woman was able to run into a tavern on Mann Street and hide in the toilets.

It will be alleged her ex-partner followed her into the toilets and forced open the cubicle door before kneeing and punching her.

Police will allege the retired superintendent had just arrived at the hotel when he heard a commotion coming from the toilets.

He subsequently entered the toilets and wrestled with the man before being able to restrain him with the assistance of hotel security staff.

The 20-year-old woman was taken to Gosford Hospital where she received treatment for a serious laceration above her left eye.

Police from Brisbane Water Local Area Command attended the hotel and arrested the man taking him to Gosford Police Station.

He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, two counts of common assault and refused bail where he appeared in Gosford Local Court yesterday.

The man was remanded in custody to re-appear in court today.
