A GIRL, 15, was taken hostage during a robbery at a Jesmond takeaway store.
Police said the teenager was serving at Hungry Jacks last night when a man entered the store.
He threatened a 63-year-old woman in the store with a boxcutter.
He then approached the counter and threatened the 15-year-old employee.
The store manager appeared and opened the till for the man who put money in a brown paper bag.
The robber held on to the 15-year-old and backed out of the store with her as a hostage.
He let her go when he left the store.
The man is described as being in his late 20s, 183 centimetres tall, with a fair complexion.
He was wearing dark-coloured tracksuit pants with three stripes, a black beanie, a hoodie and bright blue shoes
