Rival gangs not ruled out of bikie shooting

POLICE have not ruled out a rival outlaw motorcycle gang as being responsible for a bikie shooting at Rothbury.

Hunter Valley crime manager Detective Inspector Trent King said this afternoon that that line of inquiry, and several others, had not been ruled out.

Nor had a retaliation attack, although Detective Inspector King said there was nothing to indicate at this stage that a reprisal would follow.

Police were called to Wine Country Drive at Rothbury about 1.50pm yesterday after a 56-year-old man was shot multiple times in the torso.

He presented to Cessnock Hospital before being transferred to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

The motorcycle of Frank Van Der Kroft, who is believed to be the Maitland Gladiators branch president, was found nearby on the side of Wine Country Drive.

Forensic officers examined the scene and another at Majors Lane, Keinbah, where a burnt out silver sedan was found.

Mr Van Der Kroft remains today in a stable condition in John Hunter Hospital and his injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
