Knights two points out of eight as Benji’s boys falter

NORTH Queensland did the Newcastle Knights and the other teams desperately trying to break into the top eight a favour last night, beating the Wests Tigers 29-16 in Townsville last night.

The resurgent Knights, who have won four of their past five matches, are in a logjam of five teams fighting to stay in contention for the NRL’s final play-off spot.

The eighth-placed Tigers had the chance to put a four-point gap on Newcastle, the Warriors, Gold Coast, Canberra and the Dragons, who are all on 20 points, but instead the brilliance of fullback Matt Bowen propelled the Cowboys into the top four.
