A 31-year-old Lake Macquarie man accused of sexually assaulting his three-year-old daughter has been refused bail in Raymond Terrace Local Court.
The man, who cannot be identified, was charged on Tuesday after a lengthy investigation following his daughter's diagnosis with a sexually transmitted infection.
Police fiercely opposed his release on bail saying the accused had a criminal record including convictions for "matters of violence".
Magistrate Caleb Franklin agreed saying his concerns for the protection of the community, particularly the victim who is of a vulnerable age, eclipsed the rights of the accused in this case.
The matter was adjourned to Newcastle Local Court on September 26.
