Lockdown over flu fatalities at Stockton, Morisset

THREE people have died and 51 more are in lockdown after a flu virus breakout at Stockton and Morisset aged care facilities.

The Minister for Disability Services Andrew Constance said one resident of the Stockton aged care facility and two from Kanangra, in the grounds of Morisset Hospital, died after exhibiting flu-like symptoms.

More than 50 residents at ageing, disability and home care facilities in the Hunter are being treated for the flu and staff have adopted strict infection control practices, Mr Constance said.

He said all residents of the centres had been vaccinated against the flu earlier this year.

A stringent infection control regime is in place at both centres which are home to around 450 people.
