THE Block winners Lara Welham and Brad Cranfield’s personal experience with Tourette’s has resulted in the duo donating thousands of dollars towards the syndrome.
Welham’s nephew Lachlan Graham, 6, was diagnosed with a mild case of the syndrome last September.
‘‘Many of us don’t know much about Tourette’s. We only see the severe side of it portrayed in movies,’’ Welham said.
While Lachlan suffers from tics such as blinking his eyes, shrugging his shoulders or coughing, he is just as active as any six-year-old.
Former Hunter Jaegers netballer Welham and Newcastle footballer Cranfield donated the $50,000 they won on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Hot Seat to the Tourette’s Syndrome Association of Australia on Saturday in Newcastle.
The couple won the money during a special The Block episode of Hot Seat during their time on the reality show.
‘‘Tourette’s is something extremely close to our hearts,’’ Welham said.
Welham and Cranfield took home $600,000 for winning The Block last month.
They have both returned to work and are still looking to buy land in the Maitland area.
